Cardiopulmonary

The Randall D. Wigent Center for Cardiopulmonary Services at Hillsdale Hospital provides excellent care to patients with heart and lung conditions. Highly trained licensed respiratory therapists are on staff 24 hours per day to assist in the care of our patients.

In addition to the services below, general respiratory supportive care is provided to in-patients, including breathing treatments, oxygen therapy, ventilator management, BIPAP and arterial blood gas analysis.

Available Services

  • Cardiac Stress Testing: used to detect heart disease and performed with the patient exercising on a treadmill or with a medication. Always performed under the supervision of a physician.
  • Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor: allows 24-48 hour BP monitoring. A recorder monitors BP intermittently as the patient performs usual activities. The ABP activates every 40 minutes during waking hours and every 60 minutes during sleep. ABP may be used on 3-12 year old pediatric patients but is primarily used for patients who may have white coat hypertension (high BP due to anxiety in a clinical setting).
  • Smoking Cessation: Assistance for smoke cessation and support for those trying to sustain a smoke-free lifestyle.
  • EKG/Holter Monitor/Event Monitor: tests that help physicians identify heart disease and rhythm disturbances.
    • EKG: 10-15 minute procedure
    • Holter Monitor: monitor that the patient wears home 24-48 hours or up to 14 days.
    • Event Monitor: monitor the patient wears home for up to 28 days.
  • Pulmonary Function Test (PFT): helps determine if a patient has lung disease. In positive cases, a PFT can also help identify the type and severity.
  • Overnight Pulse Oximetry: a device worn at home that monitors a patient’s oxygen saturation as they sleep.
  • Sleep Studies: tests for sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, a common disorder in which a patient has shallow breaths or one or more pauses in breathing during sleep.
