Evon Schexnaydre, MD, FACOG, comes to Hillsdale Hospital with an extensive background in obstetric and gynecologic care. She has been board-certified in OB-GYN care for nearly 30 years and has practiced primarily in rural areas where access to care is limited. Throughout her career, Dr. Schexnaydre has developed various specialty skills and areas of interest, including minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery, uterine fibroids, preventive women’s healthcare and heavy menstrual bleeding. She is also experienced in managing high-risk pregnancies and complex obstetric cases.

“Caring for patients is not only a professional commitment but a personal passion,” said Dr. Schexnaydre. “I have specialized in high-technology surgical techniques, allowing patients in underserved and rural settings to access care that might otherwise not be available locally.”

Dr. Schexnaydre’s approach includes listening to patients and helping them navigate their health concerns with compassion, clarity and experience. She is most passionate about building long-term relationships with her patients and helping them navigate their health.

“Great medicine begins with listening,” said Dr. Schexnaydre. “By combining experience, teamwork and advanced surgical care, I strive to help every woman receive the high-quality care she deserves.”

Hillsdale Hospital’s OB-GYN program is also undergoing a shift toward midwife-led care with full-time physician support under the supervision of Sarah Spencer, DO, FACOOG. Dr. Spencer has been practicing at Hillsdale Hospital for more than three years and is now the medical director of obstetrics and gynecology.

“I am looking forward to creating a partnership with Dr. Schexnaydre and overseeing the development of our new midwife care model so we can deliver excellent comprehensive obstetric care to the community,” said Dr. Spencer. “My vision for this program is to continue providing individualized, patient-centered care for women of all ages and stages of life, including birthing services, gynecologic surgeries and the menopause transition.”

Amy Zoll, CNM has rejoined the Hillsdale Hospital team, providing consulting services and clinical care in the Bediako Birthing Center. The hospital plans to announce other new team members, including clinical nurse midwives and an additional physician, within the coming weeks.

“Our newly developed model of care brings together the trusted experience of our well-established team: Dr. Sarah Spencer, Rachel McCormack, CNM, and our new OB-GYN, Dr. Evon Schexnaydre,” said Zoll. “We will soon be welcoming two additional midwives who will further strengthen our team. This collaborative approach expands access, enhances safety and ensures every patient receives personalized, high-quality care close to home. Together, we are building a sustainable, community-focused future for women’s health.”

The midwife team provides clinical support for patients in prenatal care, as well as labor and delivery. Rachel McCormack, CNM has played a key role in incorporating these changes into the program.

“At Hillsdale Hospital, the program is designed by providers and leaders who truly care about their employees and the patients they serve,” McCormack said. “By bringing in Dr. Schexnaydre and recruiting more certified midwives, our program is growing to serve our community in new, remarkable ways.”

Hillsdale Hospital has developed these program changes based on community input, committee work groups, provider leadership and feedback from patients. As several birthing centers have closed in the surrounding area over the past few years, Hillsdale Hospital’s leadership team has stressed the importance of keeping maternal healthcare local and accessible for patients.

“We are so excited about the growth of our practice,” said Hillary Zimmerman, clinical nurse manager of obstetrics. “The changes we’re making are all about bringing more personalized, holistic options to our patients, especially for families using a midwifery model of care. In this new chapter, our team’s goal is to ensure every patient feels heard, supported and empowered in their care journey.”

Obstetric and gynecologic care is available at the Hidden Meadows OB-GYN office in the Three Meadows Medical Building, where patients have the option to enroll in Centering Pregnancy, a prenatal care model that brings women in the same gestational period together to meet in groups, hear from clinical guest speakers and learn about various topics, such as nutrition, prenatal diabetes, the labor process, anesthesia and more. Regular prenatal care visits are included in the Centering Pregnancy model.
