HILLSDALE, Mich.—Neurosurgeon Dr. Timothy Spencer of Greater Michigan Spine & Neurosurgery in Battle Creek, Mich., is now offering minimally-invasive procedures at Hillsdale Hospital. Spencer specializes in a comprehensive, minimally-invasive approach to surgical treatments of the spine. He chose to begin providing care at Hillsdale Hospital after observing a need within the surrounding community. Prior to his arrival, neurosurgery was not available at Hillsdale Hospital.

“Living in this part of the state, I saw that the Hillsdale community was underserved for the treatment of back pain and disorders of the spine,” Spencer said. “With that in mind, I decided to offer minimally-invasive spinal procedures at Hillsdale Hospital.”

Spencer opened Greater Michigan Spine & Neurosurgery in 2006. His guiding philosophy is to reserve invasive procedures as a last resort, but if they do become necessary, to apply the procedure best suited for the patient’s specific problem in order to enhance their outcome. Minimally-invasive surgery can be done on an outpatient basis, meaning patients are discharged from the hospital in less than 24 hours. There is also significantly less trauma to the body and substantially shorter healing times.

“Dr. Spencer brings outstanding care and a statewide reputation for excellence to our hospital,” Rachel Lott, Hillsdale Hospital director of marketing and development, said. “He is the type of provider we strive to work with. As a guardian of exceptional health services for our community, we want to ensure as much specialty care as possible is accessible to our patients, right here in Hillsdale.”

Spencer previously served as Chief of Neurosurgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Spencer is a member of the North American Spine Society and Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.

Spencer and his wife have four grown children and enjoy cross country skiing, biking and hunting.

“This is a beautiful hospital with a caring staff,” Spencer said of Hillsdale Hospital. “Patients will no longer need to travel long distances to get the help they need.”

Patients can now see Dr. Spencer in his Battle Creek or Mount Pleasant office and, when needed, have their surgery at Hillsdale Hospital. For more information about, visit www.hillsdalehospital.com. To book an appointment with Dr. Spencer or for general inquiries, call (269) 841-4350.
