Congratulations to our Winter 2025 Extra Inch Award winner, Jordan Gonshorowski, a scrub tech in our Surgery Unit! Going the “extra inch” is doing something above what is expected in service to a patient or their loved one. Extra Inch Award winners and nominees are those who help improve a patient’s experience by going out of their way to ensure the best possible care.
Jordan was recognized by her colleague, Susie Shewman, for going out of her way to cheer up a young patient with a visit from the tooth fairy.
Jordan Gonshorowski, Surgery
Summer 2025 Extra Inch Award Winner
“We had a young patient getting ready to come back to the OR room and she had a loose tooth. They had to pull it before she went to sleep, and Jordan took her own personal money and put it under the little girls pillow for when she woke up. It was so thoughtful and kind, the little girl was scared and then having to lose a tooth. To know that our team cares about the little things for our patients, [I am] proud of our surgery team.”
Nomination by Susie Shewman
Also nominated were Kierstyn Francis, CNA in the McGuire & MacRitchie Skilled Nursing Facility and Tracey Rardin from Human Resources.
Kierstyn Francis, CNA, McGuire & MacRitchie Skilled Nursing Facility
Summer 2025 Nominee
“Kierstyn has continuously picked up extra shifts to help out our units when we have been short-staffed. On top of going to school full-time and working full-time hours, she always comes in to help when she is able. She goes above and beyond to make the patients feel cared for, going in and chatting with them when they are bored and picking up their rooms for them. We always have patients asking about her whenever she has days off. She is such a positive energy in our units!”

Tracey Rardin, Human Resources
Summer 2025 Extra Inch Award Nominee
“Tracey spends hours daily working on recruiting nurses for the hospital. The times of some of her emails indicate that she does this after her working hours as well. She drove around during graduation time looking for prospective candidates. Managers very much appreciate all that Tracey does and we feel she goes above and beyond what has been the case in years past in that role.”
