Hillsdale Hospital will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross to provide life-saving blood donations to local and national blood banks.

WHAT: Community blood drive to ensure the availability of blood for patients suffering from chronic diseases, traumatic injuries and other conditions requiring blood transfusions.

WHEN: Thursday, December 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE: Hillsdale United Brethren Church, 1300 S. Hillsdale Rd., Hillsdale, MI 49242

To make an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org/give, then enter the 49242 zip code or sponsor code Hillshospital. Walk-in donors are also accepted.

“Hosting blood drives has become a regular event for the hospital because we understand the value of blood donations in critical conditions,” said Kyrsten Newlon, director of communications and donor development. “Whether a donation ends up at Hillsdale Hospital or elsewhere, it’s a lifesaving component of patient care.”

Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, according to the Red Cross. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. Type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.
