“Thank you to everyone in our community who has donated blood at our blood drives the past few months,” said Randy Holland, infection control officer and director of ancillary services at Hillsdale Hospital. “We continue offering this opportunity to give blood because we know how vital blood donations are for patient care in our community and beyond.”
Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, according to the Red Cross. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. Type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.
