Event will include provider appointments and resources for diabetic patients
Hillsdale Hospital is hosting a diabetes education event on November 10, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The event will take place at the Hillsdale Surgical Group office in the Three Meadows Medical Building at 451 Hidden Meadows Drive in Hillsdale. Provider appointments are available if booked in advance, as well as free walk-in educational resources for any community members interested in learning more.
“We are excited to bring multiple facets of diabetes care together for our community,” said Lindsey Crouch, director of outpatient clinics. “Our goal with this event is to make diabetes management more accessible and coordinated for patients. By offering screenings, education and resources from several disciplines in one visit, we’re equipping patients to take important steps toward better health without needing to travel to multiple appointments at different locations.”

Heather Mewes, DO

Komal Patel, DPM
Dr. Heather Mewes, director of primary care at Hillsdale Hospital, will be providing primary care appointments and helping patients get set up with a regular provider if needed. Dr. Komal Patel, podiatrist, will be conducting diabetic foot exams and discussing podiatric needs related to diabetes with patients. Appointments for diabetic eye exams will also be available. Several other Hillsdale Hospital services will be represented in the walk-in educational portion of the event, including the Center for Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, Hillsdale Medical Supply, and Hillsdale Home Care.
“This collaborative approach reflects Hillsdale Hospital’s commitment to improving access, education and overall outcomes for people living with diabetes,” said Crouch.
Denise Lovinger, registered dietitian and diabetes educator, will also be at the event to provide information on navigating nutrition as a diabetic patient, and how patients can sign up for diabetes education classes, which are hosted at Hillsdale Hospital. Other hospital representatives will attend to help community members with Medicaid applications, discuss chronic care management options with patients and family members, and answer questions about dealing with diabetes and related conditions.
“Every year, 1.2 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes,” said Lovinger. “Managing the disease can be overwhelming because it affects so many areas of life. With this event and beyond, Hillsdale Hospital is here for those patients with the resources and tools they need to learn about meal planning, exercise, medications, blood sugar, screenings and more.”
Community members interested in booking an appointment for primary care, podiatry or eye exams by calling Kaitlyn Reed, ACO coordinator, at (517) 964-0183. The walk-in portion of the event will be open to the public in the Hillsdale Surgical Group office lobby.
