WHERE: Hillsdale United Brethren Church, 1300 S. Hillsdale Rd., Hillsdale, MI 49242.

“Our community’s commitment to donating blood is a powerful demonstration of the bond between neighbors and reminds us that we are all connected,” said Elizabeth Cook, DO, medical director of emergency services at Hillsdale Hospital. “When accidents or medical crises arise, we rely on an available blood supply to save lives. Each unit donated can help multiple people. Hillsdale Hospital wants to be prepared for any emergency and appreciates the generous donors who give of their time and of themselves to allow us to have the resources needed in critical moments.”

Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, according to the Red Cross. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. Type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.
