Jeremiah J. Hodshire receives award for leading organizational improvement
Crain’s Detroit Business this week announced naming Jeremiah J. Hodshire, president and chief executive officer of Hillsdale Hospital, to the 2026 Notable Leaders in Health Care list. Hodshire was included in this list of 33 Southeast Michigan health care leaders for driving improvements to his organization and profession.
The award is granted to individuals who are transforming the ways medical institutions respond to patient needs, including the development of new programs and the expansion of care access in the community. Awardees include nurses, doctors and health care administrators who have made a difference for their patient population by improving clinical outcomes, reducing healthcare costs or otherwise improving their organization’s delivery of services.
“JJ is a visionary leader whose work is elevating what’s possible for rural healthcare,” said Michigan Health & Hospital Association CEO Brian Peters. “His transformational approach to sustaining rural hospitals expands access to local care, actively engages the communities they serve and elevates the voice of rural communities in decisions shaping the future of healthcare.”

Hodshire has been working at Hillsdale Hospital since 2010 in various roles, and has been serving as president and CEO for six years. In his leadership of the organization, he has introduced new service lines including vascular care, neurosurgery and podiatry to better serve patients. He engages with the community by appearing on various media channels, such as social media livestreams, radio productions and Hillsdale Hospital’s podcast, Rural Health Today, to share the mission of rural healthcare and help advance education and health literacy. Hodshire maintains constant communication with legislative leaders and representatives, voicing the health needs of both his own community and rural health across the country.
When Crain’s Detroit Business asked Hodshire about his vision for Hillsdale Hospital, he said: “All of the capacities I’ve ever served in have been geared toward servant leadership. It’s been a blessing for me to work toward my passion for caring for people.”
