Emma, a Lansing resident, began seeking urological care when she noticed blood in her urine. The urologist by Emma’s house was scheduling new appointments out two months, so her grandmother recommended she try Dr. Eric Stockall at Hillsdale Hospital instead.

Dr. Stockall works in partnership with Hillsdale Hospital to bring urological care and surgical procedures to Hillsdale County.
Dr. Stockall’s office scheduled Emma’s first appointment for the same week that she called. At her appointment, Emma was shocked by the streamlined testing process and how knowledgeable Hillsdale Hospital’s nursing staff was.
“The nursing staff know their patients,” Emma said. “They know what they’re doing. They know how to make you comfortable and feel at ease.”
She received a CT scan and cystoscopy within a few days of her initial appointment. After reviewing her symptoms and test results, Dr. Stockall diagnosed Emma with a kidney stone.
“Dr. Stockall is amazing,” Emma said. “He is top-notch.”
Removing Emma’s kidney stone required a stent, which meant surgery. Emma felt nervous about anesthesia, especially since placing and removing the stent required two separate surgical procedures. Emma’s surgical team noticed her anxiety and took extra steps to ensure she felt cared for before they administered her anesthesia medication.
“They were all wonderful at making me feel comfortable,” Emma said. “They got me a warm blanket, got me all cozy. I drifted off into my nice nap.”
The stent was placed without complications, and Dr. Stockall checked in on Emma before and after the procedure to answer any questions she had. Once she returned home, Emma noted how quickly she could resume a normal quality of life.
“I’ve been up and moving since the day after the procedures, and have been able to care for my kids and work and continue on with my life,” she said. “The whole team there from nurses to anesthesia, everybody’s wonderful.”
