Biography
Dr. Sharma graduated from B.J. Medical College, University of Pune India in 2003 and completed his MD at the State University of New York. After completing his first year of residency training at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City, he spent the rest of his residency at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, where he was also the chief resident in general surgery. Dr. Sharma had the opportunity to handle a diverse case volume that included technically challenging areas in general surgery, surgical oncology, laparoscopic surgery, gastric bypass, complex trauma cases and many other areas. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at WALS/WLH in India. He worked for two years as a consultant in general surgery in Dubai, UAE, then tackled a fellowship in bariatric surgery at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in Princeton, New Jersey. At this fellowship, Dr. Sharma was trained both with the state-of-the-art da Vinci robot and advanced laparoscopic techniques for bariatric surgery. Then, he worked as an attending general and bariatric surgeon in New York and Indiana before moving to Michigan to practice general and minimally invasive surgery, including endoscopies in Michigan.Dr. Sharma's surgical specialties include laparoscopic bariatric, anti-reflux, gastrointestinal, colorectal, hernia and general. He is a board-certified Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Fellow of American College of Surgeons. He is also board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery. His professional memberships include the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
