Hillsdale Hospital publicly released its 2025 Annual Report, covering hospital developments and challenges from its most recent fiscal year, ending June 30, 2025. The report features the hospital’s five pillars of work—people, service, quality, finance and growth.

“This Annual Report tells the story of how Hillsdale Hospital has grown to meet the needs of our community this past fiscal year,” said Hillsdale Hospital President and CEO Jeremiah J. Hodshire. “Despite unprecedented new challenges, we have much to celebrate as we reflect on our accomplishments.”

According to the report, between July 2024 and June 2025, hospital admissions totaled 300 in the skilled nursing facility, 336 in the psychiatric unit and 1,515 in acute care. The hospital team delivered 382 babies and provided 2,081 home care visits. The hospital and its clinics provided care for 105,329 outpatient visits and 19,240 visits in the emergency room. The most significant area of growth was surgical services, with the team performing 6,213 procedures in Fiscal Year 2025, a 128% increase from the previous year.

During this reporting period, the hospital officially launched Hillsdale Podiatry, with Komal Patel, DPM providing the full scope of podiatric care at her office in Hillsdale Surgical Group. In collaboration with ProMedica Physicians, the hospital began providing outpatient tele-neurology services, alongside continued tele-oncology services. FY25 also saw further growth of the hospital’s neurosurgery and urology surgical service lines, including the introduction of several innovative procedures like total cervical disc replacements for intervertebral disc deterioration and UroLift™ for benign prostate hyperplasia.

In FY25, Hillsdale Hospital worked closely with advocacy partners to provide awareness and education at the local, state and federal level. Prominent issues included Medicaid cuts under the One Big Beautiful Bill, protecting the 340B drug discount program and addressing nurse staffing ratios.

“We have lifted our voices to stand up for rural hospitals in light of the recent legislation. Through our podcast, our letters, our community testimonials and countless meetings with legislators, Hillsdale Hospital is leading the nation in advocacy on behalf of rural communities,” said Hodshire.

In FY25, Hillsdale Hospital invested $2.2 million in new technology and capital equipment, including surgical and critical care unit beds, environmental services equipment, wheelchair washers and main facility improvements. Equipment upgrades in FY25 included the installation of a VELYS Spine Navigation Platform for robotic-assisted neurosurgery, new PET/CT technology for the mobile unit and a new orthopedic X-ray for Hillsdale Orthopedics.

Over the past fiscal year, Hillsdale was the only hospital within a 30-mile radius to have a four-star patient survey rating from the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). The skilled nursing facility was one of only two nursing homes in a 25-mile radius to receive a five-star overall rating from CMS and was also named a Best Nursing Home by U.S. News & World Report for the eleventh time in 2024.

Hillsdale Hospital was recognized by The Chartis Center for Rural Health for Excellence in Outcomes in 2024 and was named a Healthcare Top Workplace by Energage in FY26. The Hillsdale Medical Supply team earned the Gallup Exceptional Team Award for its results on the annual employee engagement survey.

The hospital’s economic impact totaled more than $43.2 million, including salaries and wages, employee benefits and capital investments. During FY25, the hospital’s payer mix was 48% Medicare, 20% Medicaid, 17% Blue Cross, 12% commercial and 3% uninsured.

“FY25 brought a significant improvement in operating income,” said Mark Gross, chief financial officer. “The reasons behind this improvement include but are not limited to increased gross revenue and collection rates. FY25’s financial results are stronger than previous years and we are pleased with this growth. Hillsdale Hospital succeeds because of our hardworking employees, medical staff and from the steadfast support our community provides us.”
