Rural hospital recognized as Best Nursing Home for twelfth time
Hillsdale Hospital’s McGuire & MacRitchie Skilled Nursing Facility has been recognized as a Best Nursing Home for 2026 by U.S. News & World Report.
Since 2009, U.S. News’ annual Best Nursing Homes ratings have assisted American families in need of either short-term rehabilitation or long-term care for themselves or a loved one.
Hillsdale Hospital’s McGuire and MacRitchie Skilled Nursing Facility earned its U.S. News Best Nursing Home status by achieving a rating of “High Performing,” the highest possible rating, for short-term rehabilitation. This recognition places the facility in the top 19% of skilled nursing facilities. U.S. News gives the designation of Best Nursing Home only to those that satisfy U.S. News’ proprietary assessment of consistent performance in quality measures.
“This award recognizes our skilled nursing team’s dedication to care and quality of life for each and every resident,” said Tricia Masarik, skilled nursing administrator. “We are honored to provide excellent long-term care and short term-rehabilitation to this community.”
For the 2026 edition, U.S. News evaluated nearly 15,000 nursing homes for nurse staffing, patient outcomes and whether steps known to be effective in avoiding harm and improving health were built into the routines of the facility. These results were obtained through government-conducted surveys of health and safety outcomes.

Hillsdale Hospital MacRitchie Long-Term Care Unit
U.S. News & World Report considered short-term rehabilitation nursing homes to be facilities caring for patients who had a recent accident or hospital stay with skilled nursing services for a few weeks or months. For example, short-term rehabilitation care often includes physical therapy following joint replacement, or skilled nursing after a hospital stay for pneumonia.
To calculate the Best Nursing Homes ratings, U.S. News evaluated each nursing home’s performance using a variety of quality measures obtained from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The U.S. News methodology factors data such as resident care, safety and outcomes. Both short- and long-term ratings include data on nurse staffing, use of antipsychotic drugs and success in preventing ER and hospital visits. The long-term care rating also includes measures of whether a home changed ownership and how well it was staffed on weekends.
Hillsdale Hospital’s McGuire and MacRitchie Skilled Nursing Facility is a 38-bed nursing home offering short-term rehabilitation, long-term care and respite care, with an overall rating of 5 out of 5, including high performing ratings staffing and health outcomes. The unit’s best staffing measurements include physical therapist staffing to help residents go home on time and avoid injury, and total and direct nurse staffing to improve safety and outcomes for residents. Health outcome ratings that were high performing include residents’ ability to return home after being discharged, low emergency room visits, low infections resulting in hospitalization, low inpatient admissions and low hospital readmissions.
