Congratulations to our Spring 2025 Extra Inch Award winner, Amanda Hamilton, CNA, from our MacGuire & MacRitchie Skilled Nursing Facility! Going the “extra inch” is doing something above what is expected in service to a patient or their loved one. Extra Inch Award winners and nominees are those who help improve a patient’s experience by going out of their way to ensure the best possible care.
Amanda was recognized by her colleague, Kiersten Francis, NA, for going above and beyond to make sure that her residents feel the best they can by coming in on her days off to cut their hair.

Spring 2025 Extra Inch Award Winner
“Amanda is a really great team player with a lot of spirit and personality. She is always the first one to jump up and answer a call light and give a patient care even if it isn’t her patient. Amanda also stays over her shifts and comes in on days off so she can cut the residents’ hair, which makes them feel the best that they can. Numerous new trainees have said that Amanda makes them feel comfortable and welcomed; they have also expressed how great of a teacher she is and how well she explains any questions that they have. Overall, these units wouldn’t make it without her. She is truly the heart of it all.”
Nomination by Kiersten Francis, NA
Also nominated was Tamara Gorniak, NP from our emergency room.

Spring 2025 Extra Inch Nominee
“A patient came into the ER with a medication script from Bolivia (where he is from). The patient is in the US for the summer. He ran out of his medication and no pharmacy in town would fill his medication without having a “US script”. Tammy spent nearly an hour on the phone attempting to find a way to appropriately prescribe the medication for the patient. Tammy ended up figuring out that in order to appropriately medicate the patient, two separate scripts were required and therefore, was able to prescribe what was needed.”
