Amritraj Loganathan, MD recently set a milestone for the state of Michigan by exceeding 50 successful implantations of the prodisc® C Vivo Cervical Total Disc Replacement (TDR) device. Dr. Loganathan, board-certified neurosurgeon, has been performing surgeries exclusively at Hillsdale Hospital since December, 2023.

The product was approved in July 2023 by the by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for 1-level indications and is part of a portfolio of four FDA approved prodisc® C products that allow surgeons to select the implant that best matches a patient’s anatomy and level of disease.
“What we’re doing with cervical disc replacement is unique from the majority of neurosurgery services in the state because this option prioritizes neck mobility, quicker recovery and long-term benefit to eligible patients,” said Dr. Loganathan. “Patient outcomes should always come first. I’ve performed nearly 60 disc replacements with the Hillsdale Hospital support team, and we’ve witnessed the benefit in those patients’ lives.”
Traditional surgical intervention for the spine may include fusing spinal segments together, which permanently fuses two vertebral bodies, eliminating movement between them. A Total Disc Replacement (TDR) offers a surgical alternative to spinal fusions, where the damaged intervertebral disc is removed and replaced with an artificial implant that supports mobility. This technology works to relieve pain in patients suffering from a degenerated spinal disc while enabling motion over the long term at the diseased spinal segment and reducing adjacent-level degeneration and re-operations.
With Centinel Spine, the only United States provider of both Cervical and Lumbar Total Disc Replacement devices, and their prodisc® line of implants (prodisc® C, prodisc® C Vivo, prodisc® C SK, and prodisc® L), Dr. Loganathan ensures the best possible outcomes for his patients.
“Hillsdale Hospital’s purpose is to ensure our region has access to a full range of high-quality health services close to home,” said Jeremiah J. Hodshire, president and chief executive officer at Hillsdale Hospital. “Our partnership with Dr. Loganathan demonstrates our vision for healthcare because together, we’re able to lead the state in innovative procedures like this one, providing more value to the patients in our community than they would have without it.”
The prodisc C Vivo system is manufactured by Centinel Spine®, LLC, in the United States and has been in clinical use internationally since 2009 and is currently one of the most frequently implanted TDR devices in the world. The device has keel-less endplates and combines a unique anatomically-compatible superior endplate with lateral spikes to optimize fit and provide immediate fixation. The prodisc C Vivo device incorporates prodisc CORE technology, the basis behind predictable clinical outcomes of the prodisc platform after 30 years and over 275,000 implantations worldwide.
