The following letter was issued to Hillsdale County employers via the Hillsdale County Economic Development Partnership on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.
June 10, 2020
Dear Hillsdale County Employer:
We would like to provide a few updates on items in our prior letter dated May 8, 2020. One challenge that has not changed is the ongoing limited COVID-19 testing availability due to supply constraints for specimen collection materials—particularly swabs. Hillsdale Hospital is dedicated to continuing to work with you on this constantly-evolving challenge and want to offer you some additional support.
After researching multiple testing laboratories, NxGen Laboratories in Grand Rapids is still the most viable option for your testing needs. As previously stated, NxGen will provide collection materials, shipping from the collection site to their laboratory and 48-hour turnaround on results. We have no formal relationship with NxGen. We believe, however, that their testing capabilities and supplies will meet your needs.
If your company utilizes NxGen, you will need to partner with an ordering medical provider and perform employee sample collection. Hillsdale Hospital’s Reading Health Clinic is able to render the professional services of Kurt Roecker, D.O., at no charge to act as ordering medical provider if you do not have one. We will also work with your staff on developing a train-the-trainer education model to teach your designated staff the proper collection technique.
Reading Health Clinic has secured limited funding for COVID-19 testing to be disbursed based on your workforce and size. We are working with Sue Smith, Hillsdale County Economic Development Partnership, to arrange the funding. Please note: This limited funding ($45,000) will be divided up based on demand and each company’s total FTEs. You can reach Sue at (517) 437-3200 to express your funding need.
If you are interested in moving forward, we are prepared to offer training on June 17 from 12-1 pm at the Hillsdale Hospital Annex building on the southwest corner of the hospital campus. We can offer alternative dates, if needed. To schedule training times, please call (517) 437-6218. As always, if you have any other questions please feel free to call the Hillsdale Hospital laboratory at (517) 437-5164. To learn more about the difference in types of tests used to confirm infection and those used to show the possibility of previous infection, visit mdhhs.gov.
As your trusted community partner, we are committed to you. We will get through this together.
